Dingwall

Tip-of-the-island fishing village, gateway to Meat Cove and the Cabot Trail north loop.

On the Cabot Trail

Dingwall is one of the small fishing villages clustered at the very top of Cape Breton, on Aspy Bay where John Cabot is reputed (locally) to have first set foot on North America in 1497. It's the jumping-off point for the rough drive north to Meat Cove — the road ends there at the literal end of Nova Scotia.

The harbour, beach, and aquaculture operations give Dingwall a working-village feel, and the surrounding hills have some of the best wild-blueberry picking on the island.
