Sugarloaf Mountain Trail

Short steep climb up a distinctive cone-shaped mountain over Aspy Bay.

A locally beloved short hike up Sugarloaf, the cone-shaped peak at the north end of Aspy Bay. The trail starts near Cabot's Landing and climbs through hardwood to a bare summit with full views of the bay, the Atlantic, and the road north.

On the trail

About a 1.5 km one-way climb with steady elevation gain. Mostly forested until the open summit. Ribbons mark the route in places where it gets faint.

What you'll see

  • Aspy Bay sweeping below you
  • The Highlands rolling west toward Pleasant Bay
  • The fishing boats out of Bay St. Lawrence

What to bring

  • Sturdy footwear, water, layers for the summit wind

Combine it with

  • A swim at Cabot's Landing right after
  • The drive north to White Point and Money Point
