MacCormack Provincial Park

Quiet riverside campground on the Northeast Margaree salmon river.

MacCormack Provincial Park is a small, family-run campground on the banks of the famed Northeast Margaree River, a wide-open spot for tent and RV camping with easy access to legendary Atlantic salmon pools. The park is friendly, low-key, and a favourite of anglers and Cabot Trail road-trippers looking for a more rustic option.

What you'll see

  • The Northeast Margaree River, one of Canada's classic Atlantic salmon rivers.
  • Open meadow campsites with hardwood backdrops and direct river access.
  • Wading anglers in the named salmon pools through the season.
  • River otters, kingfishers, and the occasional bald eagle along the corridor.
  • Brilliant fall colour in late September.

On the trail

  • Short riverside paths and a wading-and-fishing access point.
  • Surface is grass and gravel; level and easy.

What to bring

  • Tent, RV, or whatever you camp in — sites accommodate both.
  • Wading boots and a fly rod if you're chasing salmon (a provincial licence and tags are required).
  • Bug spray for the river-bottom evenings.
  • Camp kitchen — there is no restaurant on site.

Park & access

  • Located on East Big Intervale Road, north of Margaree Forks.
  • Provincial Parks camping fees apply; reservations through the Nova Scotia parks system.
  • Vault toilets and a hand pump for water; no showers.
  • Open seasonally, roughly mid-June through mid-October.

Combine it with

  • The Margaree Salmon Museum a short drive south.
  • A drive on the Cabot Trail to Cheticamp or up over Cape North.
  • Inverness or Mabou for a live-music evening on the Ceilidh Trail.
