Jigging Cove Lake Trail
A short, easy loop around Jigging Cove Lake that is ideal for families, after-dinner strolls, and birding. The path is mostly flat with a few wet sections crossed on boardwalks. Beavers have been active here for years, and their dams are visible in places. Combine with a swim at nearby Black Brook for a relaxed afternoon.
What you'll see
- A small, calm lake reflecting the surrounding spruce-fir forest.
- Active beaver dams and lodges visible from the trail.
- A boreal-edge bird mix — warblers, thrushes, kingfishers, and grey jays.
- Wood frogs calling in spring; loon song in summer evenings.
- A peaceful break from the more dramatic Cabot Trail trails.
On the trail
- About 2 km loop, flat with a few short rises.
- Surface is packed dirt with boardwalks across wet sections.
- Well-signed; takes 30 to 45 minutes.
- Some sections can be muddy in spring or after rain.
What to bring
- Walking shoes; flip-flops are a bad idea on the boardwalks.
- Bug spray — the lake edge can be intense in early summer.
- Binoculars for birding.
- Headlamp if you're going for an after-dinner walk.
