A Tuesday arrival sets the week up well. Families travelling with kids can drop into Lego Tuesday at the North Sydney Library at the Wilfred Oram Centennial Library from 3 to 4 p.m. — a relaxed, no-registration drop-in session for ages five and up. Wednesday is the musical centrepiece of the week. Spend the afternoon at Ben Eoin Provincial Park, where a sandy beach on the East Bay arm of the Bras d'Or Lake offers calm, warm-toned water ideal for an early-season dip. Back in the city by evening, The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse hosts two back-to-back free sessions: the Kimberley Fraser Session with Guests at 7:30 p.m. and the All Musicians Session at 8:30 p.m. Players are welcome to bring their instruments and join in. Across town, the Wednesday Night Blues Jam at The Club runs from 7 to 10 p.m. under the direction of Steve McNenly and Baden MacLeod, while Unplugged Open Mic at the Diamond with Shane O'Handley at the Black Diamond Bar and Grill welcomes musicians of all levels from 8:30 p.m.
Thursday offers a quieter daytime pace. Craft enthusiasts can join the Fibre Lunch at the North Sydney Library from 1 to 3 p.m. — bring a knitting, crochet, or weaving project and settle in for tea and good conversation. That afternoon, Dominion Beach Provincial Park near Glace Bay is worth the short drive: a long Atlantic-facing sand beach with dunes and a coastal boardwalk makes for a restorative late-May walk. As evening arrives, entertainment with Aaron Lewis & Guest kicks off at 5 p.m. in the corner lounge at the Membertou Trade & Convention Centre.
For a quieter outdoor interlude earlier in the week, Petersfield Provincial Park off Route 239 offers picnic grounds with views over the south arm of Sydney Harbour, with the added interest of remnants spanning four cultural periods. Visitors looking to base themselves near the waterfront will find The Simon Hotel Sydney — a 144-room suite hotel on the harbour boardwalk — well-positioned for the week's activities, while Cambridge Suites Hotel Sydney puts guests steps from the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion.
