Louisbourg is a small town, and that's worth keeping in mind when you book. The Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site draws most visitors, and the best accommodation options sit within a few kilometres of it — close enough to walk to the waterfront, hear the harbour, and be first through the gates in the morning. Cranberry Cove Inn and Louisbourg Harbour Inn are the two full-service inn options in town, both in heritage buildings with breakfast included and distinctly different personalities — Victorian theme rooms with jacuzzis at the former, a sea captain's house overlooking the harbour at the latter. North Star (the recently renovated property formerly known as Point of View Suites) adds oceanfront hotel-style rooms on a four-acre peninsula, the closest accommodation to the Fortress itself.

For self-catering, several cottage and vacation rental options cluster around Louisbourg, including Peck's Housekeeping Cottages, Montebello Cottage, and Lupine Cottage, all with kitchens or full facilities and room for small groups or families. Campers and RV travellers have Riverdale R.V. Park right in town and Lake View Treasures Campground & RV Park on Catalone Lake a short drive out. Most properties here operate seasonally — roughly May through October — so confirming availability and hours before you arrive is essential. Louisbourg is not on the Cabot Trail loop itself, but it's a reasonable base for day trips toward Sydney and the broader eastern shore.
