Wagmatcook Culture & Heritage Centre
The Wagmatcook Culture and Heritage Centre, on the shore of the Bras d'Or Lake just west of Baddeck, hosts permanent exhibits on Mi'kmaw history and language, an art gallery, gift shop, and a restaurant serving Indigenous-inspired dishes. The theatre stages drumming, dancing, and storytelling performances throughout the summer season. Visitor information for the surrounding area is also available here.
Highlights
- The permanent exhibit gallery walks visitors through Mi'kmaw worldview, the seven-district map of Mi'kma'ki, the seasonal round, and contemporary community life.
- The theatre runs daytime and evening cultural performances in summer — drumming, traditional song, social dance, and guest storytellers.
- A craft gallery and shop carrying authentic baskets, beadwork, quillwork, and Mi'kmaw-language books.
- The on-site restaurant serves dishes that play with traditional ingredients — wild meats, three-sisters preparations, luskinikn bread.
- Beautiful Bras d'Or Lake views from the dining room.
