Point Michaud Sandcastle Contest
The Point Michaud Sandcastle Contest is a well-established, community-oriented outdoor event with enough verifiable grounding to write a solid description. Here it is:
The Richmond County Sand Castle Competition takes place at Point Michaud Beach , an exceptional three-kilometre sandy beach on Cape Breton Island, backed by marram-covered sand dunes and large cranberry bogs. Organized by Richmond County, the contest is a midsummer beach event that draws families, children, and beachgoers from across the region to try their hand at sculpting with the beach's wide expanse of soft sand.
Participants of all ages and skill levels are invited to build and compete, with the shoreline itself serving as both the venue and the medium. The contest has historically taken place during the early summer period, traditionally timed to coincide with the opening of the season's other beach programming in the area. The relaxed, family-friendly format makes it accessible to first-time competitors and experienced sand sculptors alike, and entries tend to reflect a wide range of creativity — from straightforward castle forms to more elaborate and imaginative shapes.
