L'Ardoise Acadian Festival's Children's Parade
L'Ardoise is a small community in Richmond County on Cape Breton Island with a rich history of French and Acadian culture. The Children's Parade is one of the signature events within the L'Ardoise Acadian Festival, a community celebration that has run for more than five decades and serves as one of Cape Breton's most enduring expressions of Acadian heritage. The parade is aimed squarely at families and younger attendees, giving children a central role in the festivities rather than a place on the sidelines. It is a procession through the community in which kids — often in costume or carrying decorations that reflect Acadian themes — march as participants rather than spectators. Festival parade entries have featured local businesses and organizations with themed floats, as well as classic cars and trucks joining the procession. The children's version of the parade brings that same spirit of community display to a younger audience, with an emphasis on fun, participation, and cultural pride. Acadian festivals in Nova Scotia combine centuries-old traditions with contemporary Acadian arts and culture.
