L'Ardoise Acadian Festival - Parade of Float
L'Ardoise is a small community in Richmond County on Cape Breton Island with a deep-rooted history of French and Acadian culture. The L'Ardoise Acadian Festival — also known as the Festival Acadien de L'Ardoise — is one of the community's longest-running annual celebrations, having reached its 53rd edition as early as 2015 , placing its origins in the early 1960s. The festival is held across several days in late July , typically drawing residents from L'Ardoise and the surrounding Richmond County area as well as visitors from across Cape Breton Island. The Parade of Floats is one of the festival's signature events and a centrepiece of the multi-day program. Local businesses and community groups design and enter themed floats, and classic cars and trucks are also a regular part of the procession. The parade reflects the kind of community-wide participation that defines the festival, with organisations, schools, and local businesses collectively bringing the streets of L'Ardoise to life each summer. Acadian festivals in Nova Scotia combine centuries-old traditions with contemporary Acadian arts and culture, and L'Ardoise's celebration is no exception.
