Little Lorraine (Presented by the Unama'ki / Cape Breton Film Festival)
A drama about a coastal fishing town caught in an international cocaine smuggling operation, filmed in Cape Breton.
Little Lorraine is a 2025 Canadian crime drama film making a special fundraising appearance at the Strathspey Performing Arts Centre in Mabou on the evening of July 30, 2026. All proceeds from ticket sales support the upcoming Unama'ki/Cape Breton Film Festival in September. Directed by Andy Hines in his debut feature, the film centres on the small seaside fishing village of Little Lorraine, Nova Scotia, which became embroiled in an international cocaine smuggling ring. More specifically, the story follows three Cape Breton coal miners who transition to lobster fishing and become entangled in that drug smuggling operation. The drama is inspired by Cape Breton folklore, maritime history, real-life events, and the original song "Lighthouse in Little Lorraine" by Nova Scotia musician Adam Baldwin. The film sold out nearly all of its red-carpet opening weekend screenings in Sydney and went on to play across the country. Filmed on location across Cape Breton Island — including the town of Louisbourg — the movie captures the atmosphere of small coastal communities where fishing traditions and local legends run deep.
