Morning Hike — event in Cape Breton

Morning Hike

Saturday, June 20, 2026 · 7:00 a.m. · Gull Cove Gabarus Trail

Morning hike along the waterfront.

This is a guided community hike organized by CBRM Recreation along a well-documented trail. There is enough verified trail information to write a grounded, honest description. Here it is:

This guided morning hike, organized by CBRM Recreation, takes participants along the Gull Cove Trail in Gabarus — one of the more historically layered coastal walking routes on Cape Breton Island's southeastern shore. The event is part of CBRM Recreation's broader outdoor programming mandate, which offers activities in active living and outdoor recreation for residents and visitors across the municipality.

The Gull Cove Trail is a 10.5 km out-and-back route that was once a cart path leaving from the village of Gabarus heading to the original settlement of Gull Cove. The trail is relatively flat for the first few kilometres, then hugs the coast, winding through windswept woods, cobbled beaches, and coastal barrens. The Gabarus Wilderness Area protects nearly 3,900 hectares of coastal lands along the Atlantic shore of Cape Breton Island, with 20 km of ocean shoreline.
