Donald Og Day

Friday, July 17, 2026 · 2:00 p.m. · Highland Village Museum/Baile nan Gàidheal

Celebrate the legend of Donald Og MacNeil and the settlement of Iona through a céilidh at the schoolhouse with L'nu interpreters.

This event celebrates the legend of Donald Og MacNeil, a settler who brought news of the Bras d'Or Lake back to Scotland's Isle of Barra in the 1700s. You can attend a céilidh in the schoolhouse, watch traditional crafts like blacksmithing and candle making, and hear L'nu interpreters discuss early encounters with Gaelic settlers and the story of the Three Crosses. The carding mill and shingle mill operate for visitors, and there are tastings of fishcakes and marag.
