Breton Brewing Co.

Industrial Sydney taproom turning out Black Angus IPA and other Cape Breton favourites.

brewery· Sydney River, NS · $$

Sydney River's industrial taproom putting out some of the most reliable craft beer on the island. Started by friends who wanted a Cape Breton beer made for Cape Bretoners, Breton has grown into the brewery you'll see on tap at half the good pubs from Inverness to Louisbourg.

What to expect

  • Working brewery feel — concrete floors, big tanks, a polished bar
  • Tasting flights, pints, and cans to go from the bottle shop
  • Rotating food trucks and pop-ups, especially weekends
  • Music nights and trivia in the cooler months

Don't miss

  • Black Angus IPA — the brewery's calling card
  • Sons of Hector Scotch Ale, a nod to the highland roots
  • Whatever seasonal small-batch is on cask

Good to know

  • Open year-round, unlike most Cape Breton breweries
  • Family-friendly until later in the evening
  • Easy parking; right off the Sydney bypass
  • Growler and crowler fills available

Pair it with

  • A show at the Membertou Sport & Wellness Centre or Centre 200
  • Dinner at Flavor on the Water, 10 minutes downtown
  • A morning ferry trip to the Bird Islands with Donelda's
